The Georgia Association of Agricultural Fairs (GAAF) held its 96th annual convention January 22-25, 2009, at the Atlanta Airport Marriot Hotel in Atlanta, Ga.
The convention featured presentations from industry leaders. Tal Duvall, Director of the Georgia Agricultural Extension Service presented “Adjusting to Change in Your Fair.” Bob Williams of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, presented " Looking at Faris From the Inside and Out, Finding and using the positive." Wayne Ates, presented a fun and motivational speech.
Workshop topics included “What's Happening at Your Fair?,” “Local Security and Insurance.,” “Advertising and Promoting to Young People.,” “Web Sites for Our Fairs or GAAF.”
A General Session was held on Saturday. At this session, The James H. Drew Fairman of the Year Award went to Larry Griffin of the Exchange Club Faor of Southwest Georgia, Albany.
The 2009 GAAF officers are President, Bud Owens of the Northwest Georgia Regional Fair, Calhoun; First Vice President, Tommie Tyler of the Coastal Empire Fair, Savannah; Second Vice President, Don Allen Garret of the North Georgia Agricultural Fair, Dalton; Secretary/Treasurer Charles Inman of Macon, Ga.; and Past President, John P. Webb Jr., of the Rabun Gap, Georgia.
The 2009 board members are Todd Miller, Odis Shead, James Freeman, Bill Wages, Billy Becton, Walter Pease, Ray Hinman, Gerald Andrews, Dannie Rogers, Michael L. Lariscy, and Billy Tucker.
The 2010 GAAF Convention will be held Jan. 21-23, at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Hotel in Atlanta.
